Products you buy through our links may earn us a commission. Oh, and if something's out of stock, oops, it was there (and all prices were accurate) at time of publication.

While it used to be that the only appropriate footwear for going out were stilettos or pumps (remember pumps?), we’re happy to report that your options have expanded. Plus, we love to find a shoe we’re not only wearing when we leave the house on a Saturday night (shocking), but also to brunch the next day and the office the day after that. Here we’ve found shoes we can testify are worth the investment, sneakers you can wear out, and boots to add to your collection.

Looking for more affordable, stylish clothes? Here’s what to wear when working, traveling, playing, and expecting.

flats
DSW

Slingback flats that look way more expensive than they are…

Dare we say these are the cutest flats we’ve ever seen? They look like designer pairs, the hardware gives them a little edge, and reviewers say they’re comfortable to boot. Wear them with jeans or high socks and a skirt. Between the black and silver metallic, there’s no wrong choice. ($39.99, DSW)

A slingback heel that’s fun with a capital F…

Every detail on these pointed-toe slingbacks is better than the last, from the five skinny buckles to the kitten heel. Between the on-trend leopard print, the glossy cherry red, and the silver, these are sure to zhuzh up any outfit. Plus, they’ll make office looks a lot less boring. ($178, Free People)

Between the flared block heel and the square toe, these have all the elements to become your new go-to. They’re from the brand that makes the most comfortable loafers, so you know you’ll be able to walk miles in these. ($200, Nordstrom)

jordans
Nike

Your new favorite going-out sneaker…

If you prefer sneakers to heels when going out, may we suggest classic Jordans? One editor has been wearing these out on the town for years and is always surprised by how well they bring a cool-girl vibe to jeans, skirts, and dresses. Plus, the black-and-white colorway works for all seasons. ($125, Nike)

ballet-flat
Reformation

A ballet flat that stands out from the rest…

There’s a sea of ballet flats out there, but these convinced us to buy into the trend. These are really more of a Mary Jane style with the strap across the top, and we love that they have a square toe rather than your typical round toe. Wear them with menswear socks and a dress for a Cher in Clueless going-out vibe. ($268, Reformation)

croc-heels
J.Crew

Heeled sandals that make us want to book a trip…

When we look at these crocodile-embossed sandals, we like to imagine wearing them with a crisp dress while eating a caprese salad in Rome. We can dream, right? Even if you don’t have anything planned, these will be a closet staple with their square toe, gold hardware, and manageable heel. When you’ve finally booked some time off, they’ll be the first pair in your bag. ($248, J.Crew)

campus-boot
Frye

A classic Frye boot we love to see trending again…

The Frye Campus Boot is back this fall (and selling out fast, so grab your size now). The best part about this riding boot silhouette is that they’re not fitted to your leg at the top, so you can actually tuck your jeans into them. True to Frye’s brand, the leather will only look better after years of wear. If they’re not in stock in your size, try Anthropologie or Neiman Marcus. ($498, Frye)

platform-sandals
Nordstrom

A pair of platform sandals to invest in…

We’ve seen the price tag, but hear us out. Platform sandals never go out of style, and the block heel is comfortable enough for you to last on your feet at wedding after wedding. These will go with bridesmaid dresses, date night outfits, and vacation looks, and they’ll hold up after years. One editor just bought them and can confirm the comfort level is worth the investment. ($495, Nordstrom)

Dolce Vita

The knee-high boots we’re seeing everywhere…

In our Instagram feeds, on our favorite influencers…we can’t stop seeing these sleek knee-high boots. They have all the right components to be your next favorite: a heel that’ll give you a little lift without being too high, a zipper so you’re not sweating trying to pull them on, and a square toe that’s timeless. Add a mini skirt to feel invincible. ($250, Dolce Vita)

An upgrade to your favorite Converse sneaker…

These are the Converse high tops you know and love but with a little lift that makes them perfect for dressing up. We’ve been wearing these for a few years and can confirm they’re up for anything the party calls for. They’re also just one of the most comfortable shoes you could choose to spend your night with. We love the black or white. ($75, Free People)

loafer
Amazon

A classic loafer with a chunky sole…

Loafers are always on trend, and these — with the bit hardware and lug sole — are especially right for this year. They come in several colors, look cute with jeans or a skirt and tights to the office, and most importantly, won’t break the bank. FYI, size up since these run small. ({{dynamicPrice}}, Amazon)

mary-janes
Sézane

Mary Janes with a not-too-high heel…

These Italian-made Mary Janes have a little block heel that’ll be comfortable whether you’re walking home from a nice dinner or find yourself dancing late into the night. They’re like the ballet flat’s fancy cousin. The shiny patent leather will make you feel put-together even if you’re wearing a sweater and jeans. ($225, Sézane)

cowboy-boot
DSW

A cowboy boot you’ll wear more than you think…

Cowboy boots are always a good idea. They’re comfortable, and they lend a little sass to any going-out ’fit. These are short and have a zipper so you can slip them on and off with ease. If you’re not ready to go full on Yellowstone, then these are a great way to dip your toe in the Western trend. ($59.99, DSW)

cap-toe-bootie
Sam Edelman

A heeled bootie that stopped us in our tracks…

And we’ve seen a lot of heeled booties in our day. These have a just-right heel, a side zipper, and a cap toe that makes them polished. They come in three colorways; the black patent is so chic, the burgundy is this year’s “It” color, and the camel and chocolate combo left us speechless. When you find a pair this good, you have no choice but to add to cart. ($160, Sam Edelman)
