How We Tested…

I’ve extensively tested three of Aritiza’s Super Puff jackets over the course of nearly ten years. I’ve worn them on their own, with layers, and throughout freezing temperatures in Boston, New York City, and even Iceland. My coworkers have also tested out their own Super Puff jackets over the course of a month in both New York and Philadelphia’s snowy, wet winters, noting warmth, quality, and fit.

Test Results…

  • Warmth. Each of the Super Puff styles are filled with responsibly sourced premium down. To say these jackets are warm is an understatement. They’ve come in clutch anytime I’ve had to spend prolonged periods outside, and I even paired them with Uniqlo Heattech on a trip to Iceland. All three of my Super Puff jackets are in Aritzia’s cliMATTE fabric, a Japanese ripstop that repels wind and water. Caroline, our Senior Editor, noted that she could feel perfectly toasty while only wearing a sweater underneath. She’s known to layer multiple jackets, so this is huge for her. Our entire team has worn these jackets in both rain and snow and we all raved about how water (and any accidental beverage spills) rolls off and dries down quickly. We all love that there are extended fleece-like sleeves with thumbholes and spacious pockets for your hands. Another perk.

  • Fit. When I bought my first Super Puff (The Super Puff Shorty) seven years ago, there weren’t as many styles in the collection. I love that now the selection is so vast, you can pick from cropped styles, vests, extra-long versions, and different finishes. This isn’t a Pillsbury Dough Boy kind of puffer coat. We all noted that the cuts are stylish, the colors are elevated, and we always felt sleek and put together when wearing.

  • Ease of care. You can throw these in the wash on a delicate cycle and they turn out just fine. Last year, there was a pesky stain I couldn’t get out, so I added some gentle detergent and hung it to dry. It maintained its original shape, but I also fluffed it out for added care. Note: You might notice some down shedding and that’s normal!

  • Lasting quality. As I’ve said earlier, my first Super Puff is in just as good shape as it was when I originally bought it seven years ago — which is why I will die on the hill that these jackets are the best investment.

Sidenotes…

  • The Super Puff Shorty. This is the Super Puff style I’ve had the longest, and it’s still my favorite of them all. This was also the unanimous vote amongst our team for our favorite fit. On my 5’1’ frame, it hits me right at the waist. Our team notes that there’s something about the short boxy style that feels current without giving Michelin Man energy. It’s also easy to pack.

  • The SuperSnug Puff. I’ve been testing this style over the past few weeks and I’m into it. This style has more of a slim-fit, so if you’re worried about a puffer jacket overwhelming your frame, try this. Definitely go up a size or two.

  • The Super Puff. I bought this one for a trip to Iceland a few years ago because I wanted a jacket that covered my butt. It’s the perfect option if you’re wanting a solid parka that isn’t too long or too short. I’m 5’1’ and usually wear a size XS. I wear a size S in all of my Super Puff styles so I can have extra room under my arms for layering.
