We tapped the internet’s fave wine consultant Isis Daniel (@themillennialsomm) and theSkimm’s branded content writer and experienced hostess, Alessandra Rey (@alealessandra29), to help us savor a few dealcoholized wines. Here are their honest, unfiltered thoughts. Cheers.
Giesen’s Sauvignon Blanc Non-Alcoholic Wine
The ultimate lunchtime wine for when you have to go back to the office. (Giesen, $11.99)
Features hints of...crisp, green apples, and citrus-forward fruits.
Pairs well with...salmon and soft cheeses like brie or camembert.
Take note of...this wine’s scents before you swirl your glass. Swirling may cause some of the aromas to escape before you get the chance to taste them.
You'll be a fan if...you’re into drier wines with a citrus-y aftertaste.
Thomson & Scott’s Noughty Alcohol-Free Sparkling Rosé
For anyone who wants to pop bottles — without dealing with a hangover. (Thomson & Scott, $22)
Features hints of…strawberry and raspberry.
Pairs well with…soft cheeses and fruity jams like fig or strawberry. Also fries, because of course.
Take note of…the light creaminess. Some sparkling wines contain lees (AKA dead yeast) that can add a creamy texture or a buttery taste when not filtered out.
You’ll be a fan if…you’re into champagne, sparkling wines, or even soda. Consider this wine the perfect bubbly alternative.
Ariel Cabernet Non-Alcoholic Wine
Candle-lovers, this sweet-smelling red is for you. (Ariel, $8.99)
Features hints of…cinnamon, vanilla, and grape juice.
Pairs well with…fish, lamb, or other lighter meats.
Take note of…the cork topper. This biodegradable option is typically used as a way to oxidize — or age — the wine over time. For dealcoholized wines, it’s more of a stylistic choice.
You’ll be a fan if…you like lighter, less tannic reds.
