Ask These Questions at Your Next OB-GYN Exam

Woman talking to her gynecologist
September 20, 2024

While we wouldn’t call going to the gynecologist particularly fun, it is crucial to your health and wellness. Your annual visit can include a well-woman physical exam (which involves pelvic and breast exams), talking about your family history and mental health, and, depending on your age, cancer screenings, like a Pap smear, says the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists.

If you’re not sure what questions to ask — or find them easy to forget in the moment (been there) — bookmark this page for your next appointment. Some common q’s include:

  • How long should my period last?

  • What do I need to know if my period is irregular?

  • I've been experiencing [insert symptom] since starting birth control. Is this normal?
